Psychedelic adventures. Sounds of a forgone era. Atlanta hiphop that forgot about the trap and was raised on early 90s vintage NYC drums. The Thumps Up crew has never delivered a project that didn’t harken back to hiphop of the Native Tongues variety. Across their projects you will hear chopped up loops, reconstituted drums from vinyls dug up in basements and a feeling that is inescapable. A feeling you aren’t likely to encounter via high energy beeps, blips and squeaks.
The first words you hear to open up The Tiger Blood EP are “we got that good cheeba cheeba.” Indeed, from the moment you press play on this project you will be teleported into a world where sounds get you high and the dustier the track the better you can float along to it’s hypnotizing groove.
If found sounds aren’t your favorite, perhaps you can appreciate their ear. Never overdoing a track, Introspective Minds don’t rush a tune, keeping things straight forward and funky always while avoiding the pitfalls of boring you to death with basic loops and no growth. They are keen to the basic elements needed in a beat and seem to have an endless supply of drums in hand and ready to grace the appropriately funky groove with the right kick.
