Bio

Be it rocking parties, designing some of the flyest posters you ever did see, dropping funky mixtapes, banging out beats, snapping breathtaking photos, throwing parties or handling business as part owner of Members Only, dj100proof wears many hats.

Getting his start making bedroom remixes in High School, Proof moved to Seattle for college and has steadily built a rep as a party rocking and mixtape DJ with great song selection specializing in funk, soul and hip hop. His “Backyard BBQ” mixtape series is a must for any sunny day and his latest dance mix “This Is Not Music, This Is A Trip” will keep the party jumping well into the early morning.

Together with DJ Swervewon he founded the “Jet Set” at the Capitol Club establishing it as the current weekly Hip Hop destination in Seattle, receiving praise from numerous local publications and helping build strong relationships with the music community. These relationships led to his other established residencies at Chapel, Moe Bar and ongoing bi-monthly dance party series at Sole repair with DJ Sean Cee.

Throughout 2010 he was able to spin up and down the west coast and built a rep as one of the go to djs in the Northwest. Last yeah he opened for the likes of: Mick Boogie, Dam-Funk, Mayer Hathorne, Aloe Black, DJ Houseshoes, DJ Maceo (of De La Soul), DJ Platurn, DJ Eleven and the Digable Planets.

Look him up, see him out and bump his freely downloadable mixtapes!

“DJ 100Proof, the man behind the man, turntable, record label or party, as the case may be. IMO Seattle owes him big-time for creating/DJing the ongoing Monday night ‘Jet Set’ rappenings at Capitol Hill’s Capitol Club.”

- Andrew Matson (Seattle Times)

“If you’ve been to a club in Seattle in the past year, simple probability makes it likely that you’ve seen these two [dj100proof & DJ Swervewon] at work. There’s hardly a day of the week that these local impresarios don’t find their names attached to a DJ showcase, club night, or concert bill, including some of the biggest hip-hop events in recent memory. In addition to their residencies at the Capitol Club and HG Lodge every Monday and Saturday respectively, and Lawrence’s behind-the-scenes work on KEXP’s Streetsounds on Sundays, they’ve found time to share the stage with the likes of The RZA, Big Boi, Digable Planets, and Aloe Blacc, to name a few.”

- Todd Hamm (Seattle Weekly)

“In 1993, just prior to the release of Nirvana’s In Utero, a friend and I were walking down Broadway, talking through a list of bands we wanted to see that month, including Soundgarden, TAD, Heatmiser, Mudhoney, and Nirvana. It wasn’t just the sheer scope of our live-music itinerary that reverberated, but the fact that you could simply feel it in the atmosphere. It was a unique moment, and I felt fortunate to be experiencing it firsthand.

I began picking up on a similar energy last Monday night while checking out the Jet Set at the Capitol Club, the increasingly popular night hosted by DJs Swervewon and 100 Proof.”

- Hannah Levin (Seattle Weekly)

“Jet Set goes down over at the Capitol Club—quiet as kept, it’s been the unofficial Monday-night clubhouse for all those third-wave cool kids; DJs 100Proof and Swervewon have done a great job of providing an intimate party atmosphere with ’nuff guest DJs and occasional live sets.”

- Larry Mizell, Jr. (The Stranger)

“Monday nights at Capitol Club are the place to be, ever since Members Only took over and turned things upside down. More than free entry, live DJs and great drink specials (enough of a reason to swing through), Jet Set offers a weekly congregation of hip hop heads and industry professionals, choppin it up, making moves, and listening to some of the best hip hop you can find in the greater Seattle area.”

- Brooklyn Benjestorf (Seattle Examiner)

Re: Backyard BBQ vol. 4

“To get prepared for the inevitable return to sunshine, your first step should be downloading the fourth installation of the Backyard BBQ mixtape series from Seattle’s own dj100proof…The mixing is fantastic, and the vibe is perfect for exactly what it sets out to accomplish.”

- Nick Feldman (Seattle Weekly Music Blog)

“You’ll know most of the songs, you’ll love most of the songs, and now you’ll have them in one spot… Hundy did a good job of picking songs that most people wouldn’t play at a backyard BBQ, but probably should.”

- Jonathan Cunningham (LastNightsMixtape.com)

Re: This is Not Music, This is a Trip

“…dj100proof just dropped an ill new tape called This Is Not Music, This Is a Trip over at the new dj100proof.com—tunes from Midnight Starr, Daft Punk, and Strafe all set it off something sweet, so get that in ya.”

- Larry Mizell, Jr. (The Stranger)

Re: State of the Artist – Seattlecalifragilisticextrahelladopeness (Music Production)

“It’s a crispy crystallization of this Kodak moment in local rap (shouts to party monsters Members Only for putting it out), connecting dots between scene vets and newer crews like Gran Rapids and Kung Foo Grip. The classic vibe of “You Know Girls” with Sol and “Say Say” with its slinky DJ100Proof track, cocky Grynch verse, and crazy no-really-is-that-Bilal R&B hook courtesy of Xperience are just a couple favorites.”

- Larry Mizell, Jr. (The Stranger)

Re: Hi-Life Soundsystem (Graphic Design)

“Verses aren’t the only guest spots; dramatic cover art courtesy of closet design genius Jeff Lawrence, aka dj100proof.”

- Nick Feldman (Seattle Weekly Music Blog)
